New SmallRig RC 220 Pro Lights Pack Powerful Output in a Compact, Energy-Efficient Design

After months of anticipation, the RC 220 Pro series brings new Daylight and Bi-Color options to SmallRig’s COB LED lineup. Designed to be about a quarter smaller than previous RC 220 lights, the model also offers a modular body design with multiple power options. With high output and reduced power consumption, the new Pro series targets versatile lighting needs for video production and content creation.

SmallRig doesn’t seem to be slowing down with new releases anytime soon, having just introduced a new COB LED light, the RC 60C, to their sizeable RC lineup. Now, following its initial reveal earlier this year, the RC 220 Pro series brings even more advancements to the range with the introduction of a modular body design. This setup aims to streamline both assembly and storage, featuring a V-Mount quick-release mechanism that securely connects the power adapter to the light body.

Possibly taking inspiration from Maxima, SmallRig has also integrated a gallium nitride chip, achieving a reduced size-to-power ratio and making this model about a quarter smaller than previous RC 220 lights. Available in both Bi-Color (2700 – 6500 K) and Daylight versions, the RC 220 Pro offers multiple power sources, including AC adapters, V-Mount, and NP-F batteries, and allows for on-board, app, and optional DMX control to suit diverse shooting needs.

New Modular Design with Efficient Power Adapter

The RC 220 Pro series is the first to feature a modular design that enhances flexibility for creators and filmmakers. Its redesigned power adapter attaches to the light body with a V-Mount quick-release connection, making setup and breakdown fast and easy. Equipped with a gallium nitride chip, the adapter is also more energy-efficient and compact, allowing for reduced power draw while maintaining the same brightness output, saving space and boosting portability.

Power and Control Flexibility in One Compact Light

Designed for flexibility across different setups, the RC 220 Pro supports power via AC, V-Mount batteries, or optional NP-F batteries. Control options include a streamlined onboard interface, app control, a wired control panel available separately, and DMX compatibility. With Bluetooth mesh, the SmallGoGo app allows adjustments across multiple lights, while DMX enables seamless syncing for complex setups.

Three-Point Optical System for High Quality Lighting

The RC 220 Pro is built for high brightness and reliable color accuracy, making it a useful tool for professional setups. Its three-point optic system starts with a COB LED chip which delivers bright and even illumination. An optical lens enhances light diffusion and ensures natural color representation, while a plano-convex lens focuses the light precisely where it’s needed. Together, these elements create a balanced, high-quality light source suited for demanding work.

Fast Setup and Multiple Power Sources

Designed for efficiency and durability, the RC 220 Pro features a cooling system adaptable to various shooting needs. Silent Mode shuts off the fan entirely, allowing for quiet operation at 20% power, while Standard Mode balances cooling with low noise at 28 dBa. The light also includes an internal shock-absorbing design to prevent sudden tilting, an adjustable tilt handle for precise positioning, and a sturdy build compatible with umbrellas and Bowens mount accessories.
