The STORM 1200x marks the beginning of Aputure’s new STORM series, bringing a new, advanced lighting technology to professional filmmakers, videographers, and photographers. At its core is the BLAIR five-color LED engine, which combines Blue, Lime, Amber, Indigo, and Red emitters to deliver more precise and natural-looking white light. This innovation enhances the quality of light across a color temperature range of 2500 to 10 000 K, providing greater flexibility in replicating daylight and tungsten sources.
Beyond its lighting capabilities, the STORM 1200x is built for professional use in varied environments. It includes IP65-rated weather protection for both the light body and control unit, making it suitable for harsh outdoor conditions, as well as a ProLock locking Bowens mount for secure attachment of modifiers. With advanced connectivity options like DMX, CRMX, and Bluetooth, the fixture also supports seamless integration into complex lighting setups.
Redefining White Light With the BLAIR Engine
At the heart of the STORM 1200x is Aputure’s innovative BLAIR light engine, designed to deliver enhanced white light quality through a five-color LED setup. By combining Blue, Lime, Amber, Indigo, and Red emitters, the BLAIR engine produces a fuller, more natural light spectrum compared to traditional bi-color fixtures. This results in superior color accuracy, making skin tones, fabrics, and other materials appear more lifelike on camera. The inclusion of an Indigo emitter is particularly unique, as it replicates the near-UV effect found in natural daylight, helping fluorescing materials retain their natural brightness and color.
Wide CCT Range and Precise Color Control
The STORM 1200x offers a versatile CCT range of 2500 to 10 000 K, enabling precise control over color temperature for various lighting scenarios, from warm tungsten to cool daylight. What sets this light apart is its ability to provide full +/- 100% green correction, in line with the ASC MITC standard, allowing users to fine-tune color balance and match different environments seamlessly. Additionally, the inclusion of XY coordinate mode gives professionals the ability to dial in specific color points, ensuring even more accuracy in complex lighting setups.
Professional Connectivity and Advanced Controls
Designed for professional versatility, the STORM 1200x offers a range of connectivity options, including DMX512, LumenRadio CRMX, and Bluetooth, with additional support for sACN and Art-Net over etherCON for network integration. The fixture features advanced bit-depth control, allowing precise PWM dimming down to 0.1% without color shifts or dropoff. This ensures consistent color accuracy throughout the entire brightness range, even at extremely low light levels, making it suitable for the most demanding production environments.
Rugged Design and Versatile Mounting Options
With IP65-rated weather protection, the STORM 1200x is engineered to endure challenging environments, offering full protection against dust, rain, and humidity for both the light body and control unit. The ProLock locking Bowens mount ensures that even heavy modifiers, such as Fresnels or softboxes, remain securely attached without any wobble or shifting. Additionally, the 360-degree yoke provides full rotational freedom, allowing for precise and flexible positioning in complex setups.
